April 14, 2013 - African Equator

After our wonderful day of gorilla tracking, we relaxed at our guest house and enjoyed the beautiful weather. The following morning, it was back in our trusty vehicle to return back to Kampala (via the same treacherous/crazy roads!). The weather was clearer today, however, so we had even better views of the Virunga volcanoes and the fields.

En route back to Kampala, we passed near the entrance to Lake Mburo, which is another national park in Uganda. Lake Mburo National Park is known as one of the very few locations in Uganda where one can see zebras in the wild. Well, I guess it was our lucky day, as a herd of zebras had wondered out of the park proper (there are no gates or fences), crossed the highway, and were grazing along the side of the road. It was a pretty neat sight to see!

Our other diversion on the way back was a stop at the Equator. Mike and I have both been to the Equator on South America, and now we can officially say that we have been to the Equator on the two hemispheres! We goofed off a bit around the monument, took some requisite picture, wandered through the local shops, and then finished our drive back to Kampala. Overall, a good ending to a great weekend!
